Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Moisturizer in Eczema and Atopic Dermatitis from a Memphis Dermatologist
Exfoliation is the process by which the skin renews itself with new cells in the Epidermis, through release of older cells. Dermatologists like myself have used a variety of Alpha Hydroxy Acid chemicals to promote exfoliating by the skin, to help our patients with Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis through exfoliating moisturizer. One particularly effective Alpha Hydroxy Acid is Glycolic Acid, originally discovered in sugarcane and pineapple.
So the Dermatologists at Big River Silk Skincare are excited to announce GlycoShea Facial&Neck Lotion and GlycoShea Hand&Body Lotion for Spring 2026, with Refined Shea Butter married with Glycolic Acid, for your best smile.
As a Memphis Dermatologist since 1993, I have spent a fair amount of my career helping patients deal with Atopic Dermatitis and Eczema. Glycolic Acid, originally discovered in sugarcane and pineapple, is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid that improves what’s called the Cell Cycle of the Epidermis of the skin, acting as a gentle skin peeling agent to renew the Epidermis.

So starting in 2016 I started designing exfoliating moisturizer products containing Glycolic Acid. Now, a company of which I am President, Big River Silk Skincare Inc., manufactures and distributes GlycoShea Facial&Neck Lotion and GlycoShea Hand&Body Lotion - fragrance-free Exfoliating Moisturizer. These products are parabens-free moisturizer, sulfate-free moisturizer, and formaldehyde-fre moisturizer.
Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis is a type of genetically sensitive skin condition that tends to run in families along with asthma, hay fever, and food allergies. It often starts in childhood but sometimes in adulthood, and it can involve the arms and legs, the chest and back, and even sometimes the face and scalp. Often itchy and sore, it can become a real skin problem in the Autumn when the drier winter air tends to cause people to start itching and developing rashes.
Dermatologists like myself have a growing armamentarium of increasingly effective topical (meaning for use on top of the skin) and oral (meaning taken by mouth or by a shot) medications to manage Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis. A good first step if you may have Eczema would be to see a Board-certified Dermatologist for a consultation. He or she may consider prescribing topical steroid creams or ointments, using a short course of a steroid called prednisone, sometimes taking a skin test or a skin biopsy, and sometimes ordering Allergy Patch Testing, a type of skin allergy testing for sensitivities to preservatives, fragrances, or components of latex, a type of testing that has been available in my Memphis Dermatology office since 2004.
In 2025, Dermatologists also have several increasingly effective injectable biologic therapies that work on the immune system to calm Eczema, including Dupixent®(Dupliumab) injections, Adbry® (tralokinumab-ldrm) injections, and Egblyss® (lebrikizumab-lbkz) injections. We also have a new steroid-free topical Zoryve® foam (roflumilast) to help reduce the itching of Eczema.
It has long been known by Dermatologists that moisturizers, particularly special types of moisturizer called Exfoliating Moisturizer, tend to help patients with Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis . So starting in 2016, after practicing Dermatology for 25 years, I started designing exfoliating moisturizer products containing Glycolic Acid. Now, a company of which I am President, Big River Silk Skincare Inc., manufactures and distributes GlycoShea Facial&Neck Lotion and GlycoShea Hand&Body Lotion: fragrance-free Exfoliating Moisturizer. These products are parabens-free moisturizer, sulfate-free moisturizer, and formaldehyde-free moisturizer.
Big River Silk Skincare’s GlycoShea Lotions also include the skin-moisturizing properties of Refined Shea Butter, a natural product from an African tree, to complement the skin-smoothing antiwrinkle cream effect of Glycolic Acid. At Big River Silk Skincare, we blend these components into what’s called an emulsion, using some of the purest natural water in the United States, from the Memphis Sands. So the GlycoShea Lotions are a type of Shea Moisture which act as a best moisturizer due to their combination of Refined Shea Butter and an Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Glycolic Acid.
Big River Silk Skincare also manufactures GlycoShea Facial&Neck Cream and GlycoShea Facial&Neck Oil as alternate versions of this Exfoliating Moisturizer product for people with drier skin.
