An Anti-Wrinkle Cream: GlycoShea;

Dermatologists like myself often search for treatments to help people achieve a more youthful look, with less wrinkles and better skin smoothness. Initial measures include avoiding Ultraviolet light, and daily use of moisturizers and broad-spectrum sunscreens.

But many of us have had prior sun exposure, which tends to promote wrinkles, skin blotchiness of color, and a more leathery skin texture. What do Dermatologists recommend for these problems?

A best first move is a consultation with a Board-certified Dermatologist for a skin check-up, an especially high priority for people with skin lesions that could be cancerous.

Scarlet Akins was 26 years old and pregnant when she noticed a lesion on her knee. It was a melanoma. Check out “Understanding the Melanoma Crisis: Scarlet’s Story,’ a 2018 movie sponsored by my Dermatology practice about Scarlet's story, on the SkinStayWell Channel of Youtube.

You or a family member can find a Board-certified Dermatologists close to you at the American Academy of Dermatology’s “Find a Dermatologist” site. Plug in your zip code, and you’ll get a list of Dermatologists close to you. My own Dermatology practice is in Cordova, Tennessee, a suburb of Memphis, TN, and there are over 13,500 Dermatologists in the United States.

Most initial measures for prevention of or treatment of premature skin aging use either what are called retinoid creams or Alpha-Hydroxy Creams (AHAs). AHAs are considered organic and natural, originally discovered in milk or fruits. They include Lactic Acid, Pyruvic Acid, and Glycolic Acid.

In 2016, after 25 years of practicing Dermatology, I incorporated a company called Big River Silk Skincare Inc. to manufacture and distribute an anti-aging AHA cream called GlycoShea™ Facial&Neck Cream. My family of four Dermatologists has been manufacturing this cream for thousands of patients in Tennessee since the 1980s. We emulsify or mix Glycolic Acid with refined Shea Butter and some of the purest natural water in the United States, from the Memphis Aquifer, using mild preservatives, with no dyes, no added fragrances, no parabens, no formaldehyde, and no sulfates.

So what does Glycolic Acid do?

Glycolic Acid helps the skin to release or ‘exfoliate” dead cells from the skin’s outermost layer, the epidermis, allowing new cell development. It was originally discovered in sugarcane, so it’s organic and natural by origin. It reduces the appearance of fine lines in the skin, improving skin tone and reducing skin splotchiness of color from UV ray exposure. So GlycoShea can be called an ‘anti-wrinkle cream.’ Its Glycolic Acid is the most commonly-used chemical peeling agent used by Dermatologists.

GlycoShea Facial&Neck Cream can be used as a bedtime cream to improve smoothness in the skin. It’s available as 1 oz: $39.95/2 oz: $59.95, and 8 oz: $179.95. It works well in combination with a mild cleanser – Vanicream® Gentle Facial Cleanser (8 oz: $11.20) – and a fragrance-free morning sunscreen – Vanicream Sunscreen Sport SPF 35 (4 oz: $17.95).
