Getting the Clear Complexion You Want: Tips for Oily Skin, Combination,&Dry Skin

Maybe you’re breaking out in your face, neck, chest or back? Maybe you have acne and are looking for acne cleanser, but products you’ve bought do nothing but irritate your skin, making matters worse? How do you sort out the jungle of available products? How can you prevent acne scars?

Well, what is acne anyway? It’s a type of sensitive skin condition brought on by clogging of the openings of the oil glands - called sebaceous glands - to the surface of the skin. We Dermatologists now know that big factors in causing acne include genetics - it runs in certain families - and also hormonal changes that start in puberty.

Excess oil on the skin is one of several mechanical factors that can cause pores to clog.

First of all, be aware that there are over 13,000 Dermatologists in the United States who can help you with your acne breakouts. The American Academy of Dermatology supports a web-based search tool for finding one near you. Consider going to their web site: AAD.org. Find the section labeled “For the Public: Find a Dermatologist,” then put in your zip code, and voila, a list of Dermatologists in your area of the country will pop up. The Dermatologist you choose will help you sort out which prescription options to pursue, be they oral antibiotics like doxycycline or topical products like what are called retinoids or azelaic acid or benzoyl peroxides, or even topical dapsone (“topical” means “on top of the skin”).

A first move is often to get a facial, neck or back cleanser that works well for your skin type:

*Dry skin often benefits from soaps or cleanser like Purpose® Bar Soap or Purpose Facial Cleanser, else Cetaphil® Cleanser, or even Dove for Sensitive Skin®.

*Oily skin or combination skin often benefits from stronger cleansers like Neutrogena® Bar Soap or Basis® Soap, or sometimes from benzoyl peroxide-containing cleansers like Persagel® or Stridex®. But sometimes these are too harsh.

In 2016, after 25 years of practicing Dermatology, I decided to start manufacturing several moisturizers and cleansers for my patients with complexion problems, on the theme of Science Simplifying Skincare™. The concept is to use a minimum number of chemicals to create easy to use moisturizers and cleansers.

One of the organic and natural skincare products introduced by Big River Silk Skincare Inc. is a really helpful gentle cleanser called AmberSoy Soap Gel™. AmberSoy fits into cleansing routines for people with both oily skin and combination skin. The Woodbury family of four Dermatologists has actually been making this remarkable soap gel since the 1980, helping thousands of people in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi, and now we’ve made it available nationally, through www.Bigriversilkskincare.com. As of 2016, it became one of the few commercially available soap gels on the U.S. market.

AmberSoy Soap Gel comes in 1 oz: $12.95; 2 oz: $18.95; and 8 oz: $59.95, and it’s available in Mint, Lemon, and No Fragrance Added. AmberSoy Soap Gel is organic and natural, being made from refined soybean oil and some of the purest natural water in the United States, from the Memphis Sands. It has no dyes, no formaldehyde, no parabens, no emulsifiers, no sulfates, no propylene glycol, and not even any gluten. But what many people like most about AmberSoy Soap Gel is that it leaves you feeling really clean, and being a gel it’s also well-suited to being used as a face mask: you can apply it 5-10 minutes before showering or bathing, to really deep clean your face, neck, back, or chest. Many users have found it a lot less drying than salicylic acid cleansers or benzoyl peroxide cleansers. For more tips, check out the short movie we made for YouTube: “AmberSoy Soap Gel.”

Big River Silk Skincare Inc. also manufactures a great moisturizer called GlycoShea™ Facial&Neck Cream that contains an Alpha-Hydroxy chemical called Glycolic Acid, originally discovered in sugar cane and pineapple. AHAs promote a natural process in your skin called exfoliation. This is the process whereby old cells are released naturally from the surface of your skin, to be replaced with new cells. The result is that GlycoShea smooths the appearance of fine lines in your skin – acting as a type of Anti-wrinkle cream. It also helps to even out skin color and texture.

GlycoShea Facial Cream is fragrance-free and dye free, with no formaldehyde nor parabens. 1 oz: $39.95; 2 oz: $59.95; 8 oz: $179.95. All of Big River Silk Skincare Inc’s products are available for pick-up at our international headquarters, at 8143 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova Tennessee 38018, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. They can also be ordered through our website: www.Bigriversilkskincare.com. And we offer free USPS shipping for orders over $40.00.
