A Radiant You for Summer 2024 with Big River Silk Skincare's GlycoShea and AmberSoy Soap Gel

by Memphis Dermatologist George Woodbury Jr. M.D. (05/28/2024)

The outdoor activities of Summer are opening up, and maybe you need a complexion make-over. Maybe you were told for years that you “would grow out of your Acne,” but that never happened, or maybe Rosacea has gotten you discouraged. Or maybe you’d like to refresh your skin, decreasing the appearance of fine lines, with better skin texture and tone.

The good news for Summer 2024 is that there are so many new treatment options for acne, for people with dry skin, combination skin, or oily skin. A great place to start sorting out these options is to get a consultation with a Board-certified Dermatologist. I’m in my own 32rd year as a Memphis Dermatologist, with Rheumatology and Dermatology Associates, Cordova, Tennessee. Or you can find a “Best Dermatologist Near Me” by going to the American Academy of Dermatology’s web site,, under the “Find a Dermatologist” tag.  Just plug in your zip code, and you’ll get a list of Derms in your area.

So what’s a Dermatologist’s ‘take’ on what’s available for acne in 2024?

Acne options range from topical therapies (meaning “on top of the skin”) to prescription antibiotics to an oral medicine called isotretinoin (Accutane).

Topical options include salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retinoids (like Tretinoin Cream and Gel or Retin A Cream), topical dapsone, and topical azelaic acid. Depending upon what type of skin you or your family member has, your Dermatologist can sort through which of these would work best for you. For more on Acne Treatment, check out my post for this week on Acne Treatment and Rosacea Treatment Options.

Many of the patients with Acne and with Rosacea within my own Memphis Dermatology practice, with Rheumatology and Dermatology, Cordova TN 38018 ( have needed effective cleansers and moisturizers that would complement the prescription products I recommend for them. So in 2016, I became President of a skincare products company – Big River Silk Skincare Inc. – to manufacture and distribute two over-the-counter products which have proven helpful for people going through Acne treatment and Rosacea treatment: AmberSoy™ Soap Gel and GlycoShea™ Facial&Neck Lotion. Our team of Dermatologists manufactures these products in Memphis, Tennessee, under strict quality control standards.

AmberSoy and GlycoShea have been used by thousands of people with complexion issues in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi since the 1960s. We now ship them nationwide.

AmberSoy Soap Gel is a soft glycerine cleanser that is helpful for people with oily skin or combination skin, for an effective exfoliating cleanser, and it can even be used as a face mask, leaving it on for 3-5 minutes prior to rinsing off, for a really deep clean. Available in No Fragrance Added, Lemon, and Mint, AmberSoy Soap Gel works best for people with oily skin and combination skin, and it can be used once or twice a day (1 oz: $14.95; 2 oz: $22.95; 8 oz: $74.95). For people with dry skin, I generally recommend either Vanicream Cleansing Bar (3.9 oz: $4.45) or Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanserr (8 oz: $10.95), akk of which are available from Big River Silk Skincare Inc.

GlycoShea Facial&Neck Lotion is a hypoallergenic exfoliating moisturizer that contains Shea Butter mixed or emulsified with some of the purest natural water in the Unites States, Memphis Aquifer water, and Glycolic Acid, an Alpha-hydroxy Acid originally discovered in sugarcane and pineapple. GlycoShea Lotion acts as an anti-wrinkle cream by smoothing out the outer layers of the skin, leaving your skin with a radiant, smooth texture (1 oz: $45.95; 2 oz: $68.95; 8 oz: $229.95), and being fragrance-free and odor-free, it can be used once or twice a day, and it can be applied under makeup.

Be aware that acne that smolders can leave Acne scars, some of which may become permanent. By all means, get a prompt evaluation by a Dermatologist if you’ve had breakouts are not clearing up. You might need an acne tune-up, and fortunately there are now a lot of effective options that your Dermatologist can prescribe to help you to get your most radiant smile. My own Memphis Dermatology practice is with Rheumatology and Dermatology Associates, 8143 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova TN 38018. Or if you need a “Dermatologist Near Me” or “Best Dermatologist Near Me,” you can find a Dermatologist closer to you by going to the American Academy of Dermatology website,, then plugging your zip code into the “Find a Dermatologist” tab, and you’ll get a list of Board-certified Dermatologists near you.
